[Comunicato stampa] Fonzaso, Italy: Castelli has expanded the range of garments which feature its revolutionary Polartec® AirCore™ technology with the launch of the Espresso 2 glove and shoecover.

With the Espresso 2 glove, Castelli has integrated Polartec® AirCore™ on the back of hand to provide an outer layer which is windproof, water repellent and highly breathable, and paired it with a PrimaLoft® insulation on the inner to keep cyclists warm and protected from the elements.

Its design has been complemented with the inclusion of a long YKK® zipper which curves to the base of the thumb to completely open the glove and make it easy to pull on and off in cold conditions.

Reflective inserts have been adorned on the back of hand for added visibility, while an engineered silicone print on the palm provides optimal grip and touchscreen inserts on the fingertips add a further practical dimension, making the Espresso 2 the ideal choice in temperatures ranging from 0-10°C (32-50°F).

The Espresso 2 shoecover also utilizes Polartec® AirCore™’s groundbreaking properties to deliver maximum comfort on winter rides.

As well as being as wind proof, water repellent, stretchy and as highly breathable as the Espresso 2 glove, the shoecover features a rear zip protector that prevents rubbing on the Achilles tendon, as well as a Velcro strap under the foot which allows for a quick and easy fit over both road and gravel shoes.

Silicone elastic has also been included on the upper cuff to prevent cold air and water seeping in, with a reflective trim on the back to further enhance visibility. Thanks to its exceptional breathability, this shoecover can be used in temperatures as low as 0°C (32°F) yet still be comfortable when it rises above 12°C (55°F).

The launch of the Espresso 2 gloves and shoecover follow hot on the heels of the Perfetto RoS 3and Alpha 150 Jackets, which are also produced from Polartec® AirCore®. The Perfetto RoS 3 is designed to excel in spring/autumn temperatures ranging from 4-14°C (39-57°F), while the Alpha 150 also features a separate Polartec® Alpha™ insulation layer, enabling it to stand up to more wintery conditions ranging from -2 to 10°C (28-50°F).

As well as the pioneering properties mentioned above, Polartec® AirCore™ is 100% free from PFAS-based chemicals* and engineered from recycled Polyester yarns to produce an extremely tight membrane that shuts out the elements while still allowing air to permeate it.

Castelli and Polartec® prioritized breathability over water repellence during Polartec® AirCore™’s development as getting wet from the inside through sweat is as big of a problem for cyclists as getting soaked from rain, sleet or snow.

During that development phase, Polartec® AirCore™ was engineered to be both essentially windproof and waterproof too. It is essentially windproof as it lets in a very small, imperceptible amount of air that delivers air permeability of 0.7 cubic feet per minute (CFM).

Polartec® AirCore™ is essentially waterproof too, achieving a hydrostatic pressure test score of 5,000mm, which means normal rain would have to fall with 6.25 times more force than it usually does to permeate it.

The Espresso 2 glove and shoecover are both available in black, and in men’s and women’s versions.

Men’s glove €99.95
Women’s glove €99.95

Men’s shoecover €79.95
Women’s shoecover €79.95

* Note – There are no intentionally added PFAS chemicals in the Polartec® AirCore™ fabric, but since these chemicals are everywhere in our environment, Castelli and Polartec® can’t guarantee zero contamination during the manufacturing or transportation process.
